Eros triumphed in French literature and poetry: it is almost impossible to count the number of erotic works that were produced during the period. Here is but a short list of some of the most important names:
L'abbe du Prat, Gervaise de Latouche, de La Morliere, the Marquis of Argens, Fougard de Montbron, Du Laurens, Senhac de Meihan, Cholderlos de Laclos, Mirabeau, and Restif de la Bretonne.
Many of the great French painters tried their hand at erotic subjects: Fragonard, Boucher, Watteau, Ingres, and David. And another that deserves mention is François Millet, creator of the famous "Angelus," an image reproduced and hung on every self-respecting French Catholic family's wall.
